Green Bean Casserole with Brown Butter Shallots

This casserole is a Thanksgiving favorite 🦃 the process of making it looks incredibly gross BUT the final result is absolutely amazing!!! The shallots on top are simply 👩🏻‍🍳 *chefs kiss* amazing. I have no words to describe how tasty this is- so go and make it so that you can understand for yourself!

What are your favorite Thanksgiving dishes? Maybe I’ll try making it 😉

<<serves 6>>

<<prep time 25 minutes; cook time 30 minutes>>

Ingredients

  • 1 bag of Trader Joe's frozen green beans (1lb 8oz)

  • 1/4 cup flour

  • 1 white onion

  • 8 oz (1 box) crimini mushrooms

  • 1.5 cups milk

  • 1 tbsp salt

  • 1 tbsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp thyme

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • 3 tbsp butter (plus 1 stick to fry the shallots)

  • 5 cloves (or more) garlic

  • 2 shallots

Process

  1. Get a large pot of water ready and turn on high heat. Also, preheat your oven to 350F.

  2. Add the mushrooms into a food processor and process(?) until its the texture of coarse sand. Add the mushrooms into a large skillet with a sprinkle of salt to pull the water out. Dice the white onion and garlic; add both into the skillet. Cook the mixture until the onions become translucent. Add the milk, flour, and spices. Turn heat off.

  3. Add a pinch of salt to the boiling water and then add the green beans (from frozen is ok). Blanch for 4 minutes.

  4. Add the grean beans and mushroom mixture to a baking dish and cook for 30 minutes.

  5. While you are waiting, lets make brown butter shallots - its really easy. Add the stick of butter to a small sauce pan and turn on medium-high. Remove the skin from the shallots and cut long-ways. Add to the melted butter and cook until crispy. Salt immediately after removing from the butter.

  6. Once the beans are done, top with the shallots and you are good to go!
